Where do the times and material prices come from?
The times are Bidmio estimates for a standard tile laid straight, including mixing, cutting and grouting – there is no free published set of tiling labour constants (price books such as Spon's are paid). Materials (flexible C2TE adhesive, grout, primer, tanking, levelling compound) are the usage per m² from manufacturers' data sheets at Wickes shelf prices ex. VAT, less a 20% trade discount. Trade account guides put trade pricing 15–40% below retail, typically 10–20% off plus a volume discount, so 20% is Bidmio's middle estimate. Tiles are not included unless you choose to supply them. Change the rate here, and your own times and prices in Bidmio.
Which walls need tanking?
BS 5385-1:2018 recommends a proprietary tanking system in new and refurbished bathrooms where tiles get wet, and BS 5385-4 makes clear that water-resistant adhesive and grout are no substitute for it. For new homes with foundations laid from 1 January 2025, NHBC Technical Guidance 9.2/06 requires a certified tanking system in wet rooms, in showers over 12 litres a minute, and in other showers where the board maker asks for it. The tool tanks the whole floor and every tiled wall in bathrooms, WCs and utility rooms – more than the minimum, but common practice.
What fall does a wet room floor need?
Between 1:80 and 1:35 towards the drain (BS 5385-3:2024, as summarised by Palace Chemicals), so the water drains away without ponding. The tool prices screed to falls over the whole floor.
Can the tiler connect the floor drain?
Setting the gully into the screed and bonding it into the tanking is tiling work and is priced in. Connecting it to the waste pipe is work for a qualified plumber and must meet Building Regulations Approved Document H (drainage); the quote says it is not included. The price is for one standard gully – a linear drain can cost a lot more.
How are the wall area and silicone worked out?
Without length and width the room is treated as square: the perimeter is 4 × √floor area. Wall tiles are perimeter × tile height less 1.60 m² per door – or the m² you enter. Silicone is 4 corners × tile height + the perimeter at the floor, plus the length of the splashback (m² ÷ 0.60 m). All quantities are rounded to 0.01.
What does it cost, and is my customer's data stored?
The calculator is free. PDF quotes in pounds are coming soon. Your customer's details are only used while Bidmio creates the PDF and are not stored unless you choose to save the quote to an account. Until then, everything stays in your browser.
